New Year | New Projects

Since Instagram became a thing for me I have neglected this blog considerably. It’s been about 7 months since my last post and even that post was delayed by some. Since the last post I’ve been featured in Shaper Origins “Shaper Origin in Action” community series which showcases Origin users and their experiences. It was amazing getting to know Sam “Sport” Cutriss and Tania “…Tania” Yeo from the Shaper team. We shot the video over the weekend and I finished the guitar over the next month in my free time.

Shaper Origin in Action – Alex Myla MD.

Here are some more stills from the build.

Even Kris from Mobius Guitars got to check it out!!!

I also found a really nice phenolic product called Paperstone which is similar to Richlite without the god awful smell. I used this for the Shaper letters on the body and the origin logo on the fretboard. When sanded it takes on a wonderful textured patina which i feel is just wonderful. I’ve got a sample box from the company and a few big slabs to use for upcoming projects!

In other news…

I’ve been hoarding wood as per usual and have scored some gorgeous pieces. One of which was this multicolored ripple figured Claro Walnut which I’m using for a commission for a colleagues son.

I’ve also made some progress on Rogers Build as well. Finally drilled the inserts and installed and fitted the neck. I’ve shaped the neck as well. Now I need to finish sand the body bevel sides and back and then apply the rest of the finish. Setup and wiring are all that remain.

Stay tuned for more updates.
